This Is How We End Things

By: R.J. Jacobs

This as an unexpected book for me. Professor Joe Lyons and 5 graduate students are conducting experiments to obtain data about people lying. One of the subjects acts out. Then someone is found dead. Then another person is found dead. With everyone having something to hide, the suspects are aplenty. But with no real evidence, who is responsible?

The prologue will capture you. But then it started to fall flat for me. There was SO much explanation about the experiment and set up for it that I was so bored reading Chapter 1. It wasn’t until the end of chapter 1 did something sort of spark. From there, it was all the secrets and investigation. While it was better, it did take a little long to get there. It was hard not to be suspicious of everyone. The only people I was able to trust in this book were the officers in charge of the investigation.

This book slowly built suspense. I wish it had happened faster, but when it did get into full blown suspense, it was really good. But that didn’t happen until closer to the end of the book.

The book wasn’t bad, but it’s nothing to rave about. Solid 3.5 stars.

If you’d like to try it, you can get it here.
