Homecoming Queen

By: Lisa Scott

I’m glad I stuck with this short story series because I enjoyed this one! In this installment, we follow Lucy Jordan. She didn’t fit in well in high school and she was voted homecoming queen as a joke. Everyone laughed at her. She went on to become a famous country singer. But she got into a car accident that left her scarred in more than one way. Since then, she has kept herself hidden. She shows up at the reunion to honor a friend that passed, but what she learns changes everything she thought she knew.

What I enjoyed about this short story the most was that it was focused on Lucy as a person and her struggles. What she has been through really pulled at my heart strings. I enjoyed watching her progress through her downtimes, but I do wish we got a little more of that. I could definitely see this one being made into a full length novel.

I also enjoyed that someone was there to support her the way that she needed and didn’t push her to rush into anything – whether it be a relationship or being out in public again. The ending was a nice wrap up of all the characters as well.
