Same Time Next Year

“Can you not see that I’m starving to death for you?”

I chose this as my November Amazon First Reads. This was a sweet and spicy story about Sumner needed to stay in the United States playing hockey so that he could get picked up by the major leagues and Britta agreeing to marry her friend so that he could stay in the U.S. and get a green card. Britta is anti-relationship due to her past, and Sumner can’t get Britta out of his mind. They agree to be married for one year wherein they will end the marriage. But can Sumner make her fall for him?

While this may have been a little bit of a cheesy read (and a lot unbelievable), it is still entertaining. I’m not huge on a book being smutty for the sake of being smutty, and that what this book is a bit. But there are also some very sweet scenes and very sweet lines. Sumner’s family was great. I really enjoyed Britta as a character. She was brave and vulnerable and strong.

Like I said above, there were some things that were unbelievable. Canada is big on hockey, so I’m not sure why Sumner thought that the only way for him to make it to the major leagues was to be in the United States. Also, it takes longer than a year to decide to go through the immigration process. Unfortunately, as an attorney, this just didn’t sit right with me at all.

However, like I said, it was an entertaining read.
