Claus and Effect

By: Piper Rayne

“All I know is that I want to spend my life with someone, and I hope that one day every love song on the radio makes sense, and every romantic comedy confirms that my heart is right. Most of all, I hope I fall hard, and if it breaks me, it he breaks me, at least I’ll know I didn’t give up.”

Okay Bookstagram, you got me! I read this because I saw it all over Bookstagram and I’m glad that I did. Tessa and Tre couldn’t be any more different. He’s an Army Ranger and she’s a baker. They encounter each other when he’s in her first class seat on a plane. From there, they are thrown together and start to become friends, and even develop feelings for each other. But while she’s open to love, he’s closed off.

Boy did this book make me swoon. Rayne really developed these two characters and their relationship. She took her time with it so it never felt rushed or unrealistic. I laughed a lot at all of the mishaps that Tessa had – she described herself as a hot mess express at one point and I feel her! The feelings between these two really built up well, and there is a surprise in the book that really made me gasp. I wasn’t expecting it at all!!

There are some spicy scenes in this book, but for me, they weren’t written well. It was almost like they weren’t thought out and the author got kind of lazy with it. For some it’ll work, but I’ve read better.

I also enjoyed that some of the side characters were pivotal, especially Polly and Tre’s mom. They were sweet women without whom some things wouldn’t have been possible or even happened to begin with!

I really do recommend this book. You can find it here.
