“They may not like me, but they respect me. Respect is better than like.”
This was a strange one for me. In this short story, a 15 year old girl is told that her mother is a witch, and her father is a garden gnome. Her mother tells her to not date Brian because he’s going to get hurt in a car accident. She’s pretty much known as the crazy lady. As the girl grows older, she distances herself and questions everything that she was taught. Eventually, things become full circle.
This short story just didn’t do it for me. I did go in blind, without reading the synopsis. But a mere 32 pages shouldn’t take me long to read. I couldn’t get into it so I kept putting off reading it. It was all just so weird to me. And while it is explained later, by that point I was already put off by the book. Unfortunately, I did not like this short story at all. However, it does seem as though I am in the minority based on other reviews that I have read.
