“I guess, sometimes, everything’s gotta get broken before you can start fresh and build what you want.
This was such a cute read! Jess moves to Atlanta to stay with her brother indefinitely after a bad breakup with Johnny. On her way to Atlanta, she calls her brother who tells her that he’s out of town. She thinks she’s going to be alone in his house to wallow. But when she gets there, she learns that her brother has a roommate, Conor Brady. A hot roommate. She figures it’d be a bad idea, never mind that he’s her brother’s best friend, she has nothing going for her. Afterall, she now will be living with her brother and she’s jobless with no aspirations. But their chemistry is evident. He asks her to help on a house flip so they will get to work closely with her. As she is rebuilding her life, does that include her romantic life?
There was oh so much right with this book. Both of these characters’ personalities leapt off the page and into my heart. While Conor may have been a godlike looking man on the outside, he was so soft and warm hearted on the inside. He was respectful of her, and genuinely just wanted the best for her. He believed in her so much. It was really endearing. So endearing that I’ll just add him to the list of book boyfriends; can I be Jess? Please?
While these two main characters were great, there were also some awesome supporting characters. Mia and Pete with their little ones. Oh, and there was Courtney, the next door neighbor that hates Jess’ brother Aiden, but her and Jess become great friends. She’s quirky, but I feel like she’s a good girlfriend to have.
Bailey talked about Conor’s house flipping renovations in such a way that I wanted to be able to see the renovations in person. I have a feeling that I would have liked his aesthetic if I was able to see them in person.
Overall, a great read and a great find on KU!
