Many thanks to the author for the gifted copy of this book!
This is my second read by this author (it’s her second book) and I REALLY enjoy her books! Ellory Brayson is the most famous romance author, but she lashes out at an audience member while doing an on air interview. To better her image, and not lose fans, she goes down to Juniper Cove to write her new book. Her publicist has the great idea of having her fans help her edit her new manuscript. And what better place to do it than at a local bookstore owned by her childhood best friend. Though now, things aren’t the best between them. Ellory picks Faye and Harper to help edit her new manuscript. We follow these women as they sort through their lives.
Goldin really writes the most relatable books. While I may not be a celebrity writer trying to fix my image, I did connect with Faye. Faye is a mom of 4 with a husband who hasn’t changed his lifestyle. She just needs a minute to herself! So many moms will be able to relate to this! Then there’s Harper, the single one who may or may not find herself in a real life romance book full of tropes. Tabby has stepmother and fertility struggles. And while all of these women are so different and have different struggles, they work through them together.
There really isn’t anything to not love about this book. Every character is unique with a distinct voice. I especially love the nods to other romance writers. The romance genre is filled with many successful writers, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for more. I also loved that the book puts into perspective how many women love not only romance novels, but smut as well.
While there is romance in this book, that’s not the main point. This book is about the friendship relationship the most. And Goldin tells this story beautifully.
