Georgia On My Mind

By: Emily Shacklette

Many thanks to BookSirens and Emily Shacklette for the ARC of this book!

Ohh! This book was SPICY! James Alder sees a girl at a conference and can’t get her out of his head. A year later, she shows up at his temp assistant and he can’t get her out of his mind. Georgia is 26 years old and has no family, no friends, and she just works temp jobs. At home, she writes spicy romance books that she never plans to let anyone read. At first, James is a jerk to her. But then he apologizes and they grow closer. But each of them have past familial traumas that they both need to work through if they are going to make it together as a couple.

I was not prepared for all the spiciness of this book! What I did enjoy about the spiciness is that it fit their personalities and it didn’t feel thrown into the book just for the sake of being there. But there is a lot of it.

Beyond the spice, this book was also sweet. James had so many sweet moments with Georgia. I loved how much he saw who she was and how much he wanted to take care of her. Equally, when she saw that he was having a hard time, she wanted to take care of him as well. I loved the comfortable moments between them, and the funny moments between them as well.

A good portion of the book also focused on their past demons. And I was really happy to see how much therapy played a part in this book. While we didn’t see most of his sessions, the book drove home how important the therapy is to help get through trauma, and even every day life. Both characters were super supportive of each other.

I think what I appreciated the most about the book is that even when things were hard, the characters communicated. There was no miscommunication – Georgia stuck around and made sure to work through whatever was going on.

This book is out on December 12, 2023. Get your copy of the book here.
