The Seven Year Slip

By: Ashley Poston

“That was love, wasn’t it? It wasn’t just a quick drop – it was falling, over and over again, for your person. It was falling as the became new people. It was learning how to exist with every new breath. It was uncertain and it was undeniably hard, and it wasn’t something you could plan for.”

Booksta made me read this and I’m glad I did! Clementine lives in her deceased Aunt’s apartment. She fills her life with work and is struggling after the loss of her Aunt. Her Aunt’s apartment is special. At any given time, it can bring you 7 years into the past. It does exactly that to Clementine and she meets Iwan. He’s living 7 years in the past, and she’s living in the present. Her Aunt told her not to fall in love in the apartment.

At first I was unsure about this book. Then I fell in love with it. Really, I fell in love with Clementine and Iwan. I loved them in the past and the present. Poston did a great job of having her characters come to life. Iwan’s vibrance and zeal for life was contagious. This was much like Clementine’s Aunt. He just seemed like a lot of fun, and with the ability to cook, I definitely want to at least be friends with him. I also loved his friends, they seemed so down to earth.

I liked that Clementine and Iwan were were still discovering themselves. No matter your age, you can always try something new. Start a new career, or decide to fill up your passport with travel. I really liked that aspect of the story.
