“You’re like sunlight, Rory. I want to bask in everything you have.”
Another booksta made me read it! This one for me was 3.5 stars. Both Russ and Aurora go to the University of Maple Hills. They meet each other at an end of year party, but both think it was just a one night stand. That summer, unbeknownst to them, they are both going to be camp counselors at the same camp. Aurora used to attend this camp and is using it as a way to escape her home life. Russ never attended this camp but is working there for the same reason. There is a rule at the camp not for the counselors to fraternize with other counselors, and Russ, while always being a rule follower, really needs this job. Can they both work there and tame the tension, or will their sparks ignite a fire?
This was really cute. I didn’t realize it was the second in the Maple Hills series until I started to read it. I haven’t read Icebreaker yet, but I will get there. However, I hope it’s better than this one. I could see this book being made into a movie. But, there was SO much focus on camp activities, that it took away from the tension and pull between Russ and Aurora.
Besides the romance between the two, I did appreciate how supportive each of them was of the other. This book touched upon a gambling addiction and how it effects the family, as well as an absent father. These are not light topics at all, and can really have an effect on how someone turns out, as we see here in this book. I appreciated that there was something deeper going on with each of them that connected them on a deeper level.
Aurora loves book and she hates the miscommunication trope, and while that is in here lightly at the beginning of the book (or the lack of communication trope), by the end, she refuses to let that happen. This is something else I also appreciate as I’m not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope.
