Diary of a Killer

Thanks to the author for the gifted copy of the book!

Alfred entered the world while his mother was dying. His brothers never treated him nicely. There is something about a specific scent that triggers Alfred to be a murderer. Within this book, we learn why he murders and what is going on through his brain while he is murdering, and after the murders.

This is a short read at just 115 pages. I will say, I really enjoyed getting into Alfred’s mind and learning why he kills and what he is thinking about as he kills. I also really enjoyed his thoughts in the aftermath. It made me wonder if that’s what really goes through some murderer’s minds. It is fast paced and very easy to read. Every single word in the book is important.

However, I’m going to also say this. I would have liked this book to be developed a little more. There are some police scenes in the book, and while the rookie really made me laugh a little at how awful of a cop he is, it went from “how are we going to find this guy” to one person making a suggestion as to who it was and them thinking they had their guy. I would have liked a little more written about the investigation itself. It would have been really great if Alfred and the police played cat and mouse!

We are also introduced to a character named Kate. I wish we had more background between Kate and Alfred to better understand their relationship.
