The Lover

By: Silvia Moreno-Garcia

“From the first moment he’d spoken to her, she’d loved him, then had to endure the agony of his loss. Now she knew a new agony, both the pleasure of his embrace and the weight of sin.”

So this was different for me. In this short story, Judith wants to find a husband. She follows some old wives tale to find that husband. A man comes to town and she thinks it’s him, but he winds up marrying her sister. Another man comes to town, and she believes him to be a vagrant. With both of these men in her life, what happens?

I did not like this at all. It’s partially my fault for not even reading the synopsis of the book before picking it up. However, I didn’t like the writing style and the ending was just very weird. There was no connection felt between any of the characters, everything was matter of fact. I didn’t like any of the characters, they were all annoying in their own way. So, I would not recommend this book.

But if you’re curious, you can find it here.
