Eh, this wasn’t my favorite of the series. It also wasn’t my least favorite. Daisy Murray walks into her favorite bakery on Valentine’s Day. She thinks the owner/baker hates her, but his pastries taste amazing. She was going to stop going, but she couldn’t help herself walking in there. As he says that the bakery is closed because they are sold out, he turns and glares at her. Then there is an earthquake and they wind up hiding under a table together. What better way to get to know each other.
I’m not a fan of insta love with no backstory. If there was a back story here where we got in the head of the baker (I’m not going to lie, I forgot his name), and how he thought and felt, and then this happened, maybe I would have like it better. But with 40 short pages, this novella missed the mark.
I also would have liked to know more about the after, but again, I guess that’s what you get when an author is trying to write a story in 40 pages. But also, in 40 pages, the FMC was sort of repetitive. She mentioned that the baker hated her I don’t know how many times! Honestly? this felt like a throw away for this author as I have read a few of her full length novels.
