Butcher & Blackbird

“Being a serial killer who kills serial killers is a great hobby.”

Wow, this was a great book! When Rowan and Sloane meet, they realize that they are both serial killers. They create an unlikely bond. They begin a game every year to kill a serial killer, and whoever kills first, wins. However, their friendship turns into something more. But will whatever it is they have blind them and trip them up?

I’m loving this dark romance genre! I didn’t know what I was getting when I picked this book up. I decided to read it because I kept seeing it ALL over the place. I read reviews but not the synopsis.

This book was brilliantly written. Serial killers killing serial killers isn’t anything new, but this felt fresh. Maybe it was because of their preferred method of killing or for me, it’s the first time I’ve read it mixed with romance. There was tons of tension and chemistry. The “touch her and die” moment was chef’s kiss!

I really enjoyed the supporting characters, Lark and Lachlan. They were equal parts funny and curious. They each knew what their friends/family were and accepted them for who they were. It was quite interesting.

I don’t have many triggers, but there is some accidental and purposeful cannibalism, which got to me a little. But honestly, it wasn’t that much and the scenes went quickly.

Oh, and the spice in this book! Phew! It was written perfectly as well!

Check the trigger warnings for this one. The author does a great job of putting them at the beginning of the book. I can’t wait to read the next one!
