Unpretty

“Why won’t they love me?”

I saw this on booksta and I thought it would be an interesting read. We meet Penelope, the outcast of the family. Her famous parents and sister are famous and perfect. Penelope looks different, and they keep her hidden away, unloved. Penelope goes off on her own and creates an animal sanctuary. She meets Christian, who thinks she’s someone different at first. But they have a connection. He sees her differently. She has family secrets and he is determined to uncover them.

Based on the description, I thought I was going to LOVE this book. Unfortunately, I didn’t. I did like the the “ugly duckling” part of this story. I also loved the secret that was uncovered. I thought that part of the story was very interesting and I would have loved to see more of it.

What I didn’t like was the rest of it, which seemed to be most of it. I realize that based on the reviews, I am an outlier. I can’t stand insta-love. It’s a trope that I just hate. These two meet each other, and within no time, we are right into the spicy scenes. Then all of a sudden they love each other and they are the loves of each other’s lives. They knew nothing about each other! Oh and on top of that, she’s a virgin yet she acts and says things like she’s been at this for years. I think this could have been a great story, but these parts just ruined it for me. Oh and if I had read that things were buds and nubs one more time, I would have scratched my eyes out.
