Listen for the Lie

By: Amy Tintera

“The truth is whatever you say it is.”

This book was everything that I wanted it to be! Immediately, the first chapter drew me in. Lucy was found wandering the streets after her best friend, Savannah, was found dead. She was still wearing her clothes from the night before, and she had dried blood on her. Lucy was never charged with any crimes, but it seemed that everyone thought that Lucy was responsible.

Many years late, Ben, a true crime podcaster, began covering this story, determined to find out who was responsible for Savannah’s death. Lucy was never able to remember that night, and moved away soon after. Now she’s back in the small town where this occurred, determined to figured out what happened that night and who was responsible, even if it’s her.

Tintera kept me guessing up until the very end of the book. I had a few guesses but really I thought I had figured it out. Boy was I WAY off. The skill that Tintera has in writing this book is absolutely amazing. Each chapter, each podcast episode, throws another nugget of information. It’s fun to try to put it together, even if you’re wrong.

This author’s previous books were YA, and this is her debut adult book. I would have never known that she was a YA writer. Her style of writing is easy to read, thoughtful, and dialogue driven.

I wasn’t sure who to trust, and who to suspect. I hated certain characters and liked others, but that did change. What didn’t change was how FANTASTIC Grandma Beverly was!

Simply put, this book wowed me. It’s a 5 star must read.
