Leather & Lark

By: Brynne Weaver

I really wanted to love this book as much as I did Butcher & Blackbird, but unfortunately I didn’t. Lark and Lachlan meet one fateful night when he was had to clean up her mess. He wants to retire from contract killing, but that night cost his boss a contract. Now only Lark can make it right. She makes a vow to save him, and her family. The ultimate vow, they get married. As they move through the world that brings them together, the fake marriage turns into a real one. But does that really save everyone?

It’s SO hard not to compare this book to the first one, especially because this is the second in the series. Lark is a wonderful character. I really enjoy her personality. She’s not all dark and brooding. Lachlan is an okay character. He’s not super wonderful, but he’s also not the worst character that I ever read. The problem is that I didn’t really feel the chemistry between these two characters. Was there some sexual tension? Sure. But the chemistry to fall in love with each other just wasn’t there. I had a hard time believing that this fake marriage turned real.

This book was also a bit boring. I was expecting more gruesome scenes like there were in B&B. It really lacked in this book. There was the plot line of a killer and Lark and Lachlan trying to find that person, but the scenes about it were so far and few between. The book really focused on the romance. And for some, that may be okay. But for me, I expected more a book like B&B.

Overall, for me, this book was just lacking. Will I read the third in the series? Probably. I want to see what the author does.

This is out now. You can find the book here.
