The One I Stood Beside

By: Piper Rayne

Many thanks to Valentine PR and Piper Rayne for the gifted copy of this book!

These Noughton boys! They are something, and they are loveable. In this second book in the Plain Daisy Ranch series, we focus on Jude and Sadie. Sadie’s father unexpectedly dies and Sadie finds out that their family ranch is in trouble. Jude, Sadie’s best friend, steps in to help her. When she learns that the only way she can get a loan is to cosign, and that being married would help, Jude falls to one knee and devises a plan to help Sadie. So they plan a wedding, Sadie moves in with Jude, and they think they have fooled everyone. But they are only fooling themselves.

These boys are SO yummy and this is one of my favorite settings. Jude is another Cinnamon Roll MMC that I just want to eat up. Sadie is so strong and determined. She doesn’t want to accept help from anyone, she wants to make it on her own. It’s a really admirable quality, especially when so many people are offering to help and/or offering her money. Jude doesn’t think he deserves love; his main focus is Sadie’s happiness. He sometimes thinks he knows what is best for her, and while he may be wrong, putting someone else before himself is really a lovable quality. Their love story is epic. These two characters are made for each other.

Aside from the love story in this book, we really get a better sense of how close these brothers really are, and how close these boys are with their father. Their father has many words of wisdom, and while it’s awful that their mother isn’t around anymore, these men all had me smiling from the support that the give each other in between all the joking around.

So romance book lovers, you’re going to really enjoy this one. It’s well written, with a love story that will tug at your heart strings, with a little bit of spice.
