Eva’s husband, Samuel, goes out for a boys night. When he doesn’t come home, she thinks he is nursing a hangover. But when he doesn’t respond to texts and never shows up at home, she’s worried. She calls the police to file a missing persons report. Then she gets a text from him – he’s left her for someone else. She’s very confused. Then she gets a picture of Sam with a knife to his neck that says to complete the items on the bucket list or he dies. Convinced he is kidnapped, she begins to do the things that the kidnapper tells her to do. As she is doing these things, her life begins to unravel. Friends and family thinks she needs mental health help, she’s slacking at work, and she is neglecting her kids. Can Eva save her husband?
Rijks has such an amazing talent for these thriller books. I’m so glad that I was introduced to this author because Rijks is now on my must read list of authors. This book is told in two different points of view, Eva and “The Lover.” So of course I began trying to guess who the lover was, and man was I way off. We find out who it is towards the middle of the book. What is mysterious after that is the why, and whether Eva can save Sam; can she figure out who the lover is?
True of all Rijks’ books, this was gripping and thrilling, a true page turner. I just enjoy her style of writing so much because it’s so easy to read. The plots are always interesting and hard to guess. And this one is no different. The end.. That end.. I need someone to read this so we can discuss!!! That was an end I didn’t see coming from a mile away!!! Brava to Rijks on another super successful book!
