Killman Creek

“But the past never leaves us. It’s in every breath, every cell, every second. I know that now.”

This is the second book in the Stillhouse Lake series. You really need to read the first one to understand this one as this one takes off right where the other one ended. There are minor mentions of the first book, but not enough that this could be read as a standalone.

Gwen’s husband, Melvin Royal, serial killer, has escaped from prison and he’s hunting her. She is also hunting him because she wants to keep her kids safe. So she leaves her kids with trusted friends and goes off with Sam Cade investigating who Absalom is and where they can find Melvin. But the people she trusted are losing trust in her.

This second book was just okay. It was really hard to get into for me. It wasn’t until the action picked up for the last quarter of the book did reading stop feeling like chore. I’m surprised that I felt this way since I absolutely LOVED the first book. Gwen got a little annoying for me; actually, most of the characters annoyed me.

I will say, the book ends with a bang. It really as a great ending. Though, knowing this ending and reading the synopsis of the third book in the series, I probably won’t read it. It seems like it was made into a series to capitalize off how well the first one did. Sorry, not sorry.

Anyway, if you’re interested in checking this out, you can find it here. It’s on KU!
