Under the Whispering Door

“It’s never enough, is it? Time. We always think we have so much of it, but when it really counts, we don’t have enough at all.”

I feel like I am probably the last person in the world to read this book, and to read this author. I had heard of this author and his books, but this is my first read of his books. It’s quite interesting. Wallace Price dies, and the reaper appears at his funeral, which is seeing as a dead man. She brings him to a tea shop, which is like a way station where he figures things out from his life prior to being ready to cross over. But after being there for a while, he’s told that he has seven days and he needs to cross over, and now he’s got to figure out how to live a lifetime in seven days.

I’m probably in the minority here. So many people LOVED this book. While I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it. I absolutely loved the concept, and could see this being made into a movie (or maybe it has been, and I don’t even know it!). This book really is thought provoking. Are you living your best life right now? Are you making the most of your time? Are you a nice person? Do you make time for the people that matter in your life? Then there’s the thoughts of what really does happen when it’s our time to go? I really feel like this book could change someone’s perspective about their life.

Now to the part that I didn’t like, and really caused me to drop some stars. This book was unnecessarily long. There is a bunch in the middle that could have been cut out without taking away from the story. It was to the part that I was bored. And when I’m bored, I don’t want to read the book. So there were parts that I literally had to force myself to read.

Anyway, this book is worth checking out, but maybe skip some sections in the middle.
