“It’s simple, really. It’s about a cello who fell in love with a violin.”
This is another booksta made me read it! Violinist Gwen plays for the Manhattan Pops along with Xander Thorne, who is famous. He’s never noticed her until one fateful afternoon she was playing at a wedding as a side gig. While he critiques her, she gets something he’s always wanted, first chair for the orchestra. They respect each other as musicians, but she thinks he’s a bad idea. Their chemistry both on and off stage is undeniable, but they are also used by many people.
This was a easy to ready rom-com! I love music, and while classical isn’t my thing, I could very much appreciate all the music talk in this book. I played an instrument myself for 13 years, but I had no dreams of going beyond school. I could feel the passion that these characters had for their music. Certain music gives me chills and while I couldn’t “hear” anything while reading, I definitely heard their music in my head (even if it wasn’t the right music).
I felt their chemistry. These two were on fire! Yes, this book has a rating of at least a 3 chilis on the spice scale. I really just loved that for both of these characters, music was their love language. It made my heart happy.
I do recommend this book to rom-com lovers, but will caveat it with this: there is a lot of talk of classical music and some references we lay people may not understand. However, it doesn’t take away from the book.
