“Haters are part of the deal when you put yourself in the public eye…”
I loved The Drowning Woman so when I saw Robyn Harding come out with a new book, I had to read it. This book really brings to light what it’s like when you put yourself in the public eye, though I REALLY hope that nothing has gone to this extreme for any authors. In this novel, we meet Camryn Lane. She is an author who has published her first book “Burnt Orchid.” There are some heavy topics in that book dealing with teenage children. In real life, Camryn is also a school counselor. When someone claims that she uses the kids in school as her inspiration, things go out of control. There’s trolling, doxing, and Camryn herself makes a couple of bad moves on social media trying to address the situation. She’s at risk of losing both her careers, but who is behind it all?
I was worried this was going to be like another book that I read, but it wasn’t. I can see how hard it is to want to speak up for yourself, and how words can easily be twisted. This was a great example of that. Harding weaves together a fantastic novel of suspense and plot twists.
This also touched on the dynamics of familial relationships, especially in the teenage years. It’s so important to remember sometimes what we do effects others, and vice versa. Being a teenager is hard.
The book reads easily and Harding’s writing just flows so well and so naturally. I couldn’t put this one down, and found myself flying through the book.
