The Five Year Lie

By: Sarina Bowen

“I’m a snoop, and I need to know how private video ends up in stalkers’ hands.”

This book is something else! Ariel receives a text message one morning that says something has happened to and to meet under a tree from Drew, only he’s dead. The text message throws Ariel off kilter and she starts thinking about the day that Drew disappeared. She begins to ask questions and investigate what happened to him. Except, she learns more than she ever wanted to know and opens up a mystery puts her in danger.

This is my first time reading this author, and I’m curious how her romances read. I wouldn’t really call this a domestic thriller, it’s probably more like a domestic suspense to me. The plot is fantastic, the twists are great. I was really along for the ride with this book. I liked the characters I was supposed to like, I disliked the characters I was supposed to dislike. I loved the Disney references in the book. There really is a LOT to like about this book.

It was, however, over 400 pages of just slow pacing. It picked up every so slightly at one point, but then that was it. It didn’t pick up for long. I don’t do well with slow paced books. That’s okay – it’s a me thing. Some people love it. I personally think this book could have been cut down by at least 50 pages and we still could have had the same complete story.

I enjoyed the ending too. That ending felt like it gave me a small taste of her other books, and it made me want to check them out.

This book is available now and it’s on KU. Check it out here!
