The Mystery Guest

By: Nita Prose

“How was it possible that I remembered everything about him but he did not remember me?”

The second book in The Maid series and I loved it! There’s just something about Nita Prose’s writing that makes her books so interesting and so easy to read. Molly is back and she is Head Maid. The Regency Grand Hotel is putting on an event for esteemed writer J.D. Grimthorpe; he’s going to be making a big announcement. Once the conference starts, Mr. Grimthorpe keels over and dies. But how, why, and who is behind it? As the police investigate, Molly is looked at as a suspect once again and she has ties to Mr. Grimthorpe. Now, she has to delve into her past to figure out what really happened.

I couldn’t put this book down and was really annoyed that work got in the way of me reading this book! I loved seeing Molly’s growth from the last book to this book. She’s so much more confident and independent in this book. It was so great to read! She’s also living with Juan in this book, which was also a nice touch!

The book alternates somewhat between the now and the past so that we can understand Molly’s past, how she encounters Mr. Grimthorpe, and why it matters now. Gran is a fantastic character. You can feel how much she loves Molly, how much she accepts her and her differences.

The mystery aspect of this book is also well done. I didn’t guess at all who was the culprit. Of course I had my suspicions, but I was way off!

This was an enjoyable, somewhat cozy read. I think mystery readers will enjoy this one.

This is out now, so you can check it out here.
