I came across this book on Bookstagram and it looked cute so I gave it a try! On her 18th birthday, Carmen breaks Maddox’s heart. He moves away, joins the Army, and then becomes a police officer in Boston. It’s been 9 years and he’s on forced leave from work. He returns home with nothing else to do, but he didn’t expect Carmen to be there. He’s not ready to see her, he’s been holding onto the hurt and pain for 9 years. She’s ready to apologize, explain, profess her feelings for him, and win him back. Maddox doesn’t know if he can forgive her or let his walls down that he’s had up for the last 9 years.
This was a sweet Christmas romance book. I enjoyed the fact that it was the FMC that went after what she wanted and that the MMC was the one that was a little reserved, needed time to think things through, and was just cautious. It’s not something that I’ve read a lot of, so that was refreshing.
The setting of the book was really cozy; the town was filled with Christmas and Christmas activities. Again, it was another one of those towns that I would really love to visit at Christmastime. I loved all the characters but my absolute favorite one was Nana, with her love schemes!!! She was so great!
The chemistry between Carmen and Maddox was palpable while reading. It’s hard not to root for them to get back together, knowing their history and knowing how much they thought and felt about each other.
Overall, this is a sweet, fun, and quick read. You can find this book on Kindle Unlimited.
