I kept seeing this book everywhere on Bookstagram so I decided to grab my copy from Kindle Unlimited and give it a try! Austin Graham is a tight end for the Las Vegas Aces. He hasn’t always played by the book. But when it comes to Kelly Kaplan, he wants to better. Especially because him and Kelly have a daughter together, Mia. Behind the scenes, he’s been trying to straighten himself out so that he can be someone that his daughter would be proud of and so that he could possibly get Kelly back. Kelly, however, is hesitant; she has her walls up and for good reason. She has trouble trusting him. But when Kelly sees Austin with Mia, her heart melts.
This is a really enjoyable Christmas novella! There is a great connection between Kelly and Austin, and there is definitely a lot of spice between them as well! But the reasons that I like this book are for more than just that.
In the title of the book Austin is described as a “scrooge.” But he really isn’t a scrooge. Maybe he doesn’t love Christmas, but he has some really good reasons to be down during that time of the year (I won’t reveal them so that I don’t give anything away). It made me want to reach through the book and want to give him a hug. ALSO, it’s rare that we see male characters be this vulnerable.
The other reason that I really liked this book was because of Kelly’s family. They were so welcoming and loving. I want to be welcomed into her family! There was one particular scene with a cutting board that made me tear up. That has to be my favorite scene in the whole book.
Clearly, I enjoyed this book. For those of you who haven’t read it yet and love Christmas romance books, go check this one out!
