“You have captured my heart piece by piece, weaving your way into my very soul, and before I knew it, you had claimed all of me.”
Presley gave her boss Jack Sinclair a years notice that she was taking two weeks off in December to spend Christmas with her family in Maine. That’s why she was angry when the day she was to fly out, her boss told her to reschedule her plans because of a work merger. She refused and he invited himself along on her trip home. There were a few rules though. As her family knows that he’s pretty much a tyrant, they can’t know that he’s her boss, he has to help her finish her holiday wish list, and she gets a raise. He agrees, and off they go in his private jet. Now forced to stay in her childhood room together, spend time together outside of work, pretending to be dating, suppressed feelings rise to the surface. But as his assistant, how can this even work?
This novella was a really cute and quick read. Right away I felt the chemistry between Presley and Jack. I always worry with romance novellas about the instalove situations since I’m not a big fan of instalove. There was a nice buildup in this one, and there was a situation where something was said and I think Presley had an appropriate response. However, even though these two have known each other for 3 years due to working together, I do think dropping the L word after the one week was a little too quick for me personally.
Aside from that, there was some great banter in the book. I loved Presley’s attitude and the fact that she spoke her mind when he was being unreasonable. I also liked that they both had vulnerable sides and that while they were nervous to show them due to their working relationship, they weren’t afraid or scared of them. Presley’s protective prank playing brothers were fantastic supporting characters. The town sounded cute and all of the Christmas activities were fun.
There are some very open door scenes in this book, just to make those aware if you’re thinking about giving this a go. But Christmas romance readers are going to really enjoy this one. It put a smile on my face.
