Falling for the Forward

By: Brenda Rothert

Many thanks to Hambright PR for the ARC of this book!

Suki is broke. Her ex boyfriend Tyler convinced her to co-sign a loan for his brilliant business idea, and when it didn’t work out, he left her and left her with the debt. Now she’s working two jobs just to be able to make the loan payments. One of those jobs is a nanny for a hockey star, Carter. He has temporary custody of his three nieces as their mother, his sister Rachel, suddenly passed away. Unfortunately, however, their father, who has never been in the picture, is fighting for custody because he wants Rachel’s life insurance money. Carter proposes to Suki so that he can get full permanent custody of the girls and Suki agrees because she needs the money that Carter is going to pay her. He’s broody, but she loves the girls. This is foolproof, right?

This is so sweet and so cute. Yes, Carter is broody but I knew right away that deep down he had such a sweet and vulnerable side. There were moments in this book that really touched my heart so much that I cried. It’s not easy for a single man to willingly take in three girls, and then to fight for them? To do whatever he has to to make sure he gets to keep them? Nevermind the romance part of it, push Suki aside! I wanted a piece of Carter just for that very reason! Then he adopts a pet for them and man, it’s a fun time. Darling, the name of the pet, stole the show so many times.

Suki is such a lovable character too. She’s sweet and fits in with Carter and the girls perfectly. I love that she always knew how to handle the delicate moments when the girls brought up their mother and how she tried so hard to make things extra special for them because she knew things were hard for them.

There really is so much to love about this book. Another aspect of the book I loved is that even though it’s a nanny trope, it’s done SO differently. It’s not the typical sleep with the nanny trope. They actually get to know each other before there is any physical intimacy. They genuinely care for each other before all of that happens. It makes the buildup to the intimacy so much better, and the intimacy actually mean something rather than there be spice for the sake of spice.

This is a new to me author, but I’m going to be making sure to read other books by this author. Romance readers, get your hands on this one now!
