Blake Boden is Dickson University’s start quarterback, and he has his sights set on Lexi Winslow. Only, she wants nothing to do with him. He vows to win her over, but what he doesn’t realize is that she’s a little different. She doesn’t do emotions the way “normal” people do, the way neurotypical people do. Blake is stubborn and persistent. As Lexi is readying to get her second PhD in computer assisted research, he decides to allow herself to do research with Blake as her subject. For her its just for fun, for him, it’s real.
The second book in the Dickson University series, but can be read as a standalone, I thoroughly enjoyed following Blake and Lexi’s story. Blake is the ultimate cinnamon roll MMC. The fact that he was just willing to take things slow for Lexi, to make sure that she felt comfortable, to resist his urges to make sure things for her were okay, are just glowing green flags. It makes a girl fall in love!
Lexi is such a complex character and I loved it. I really enjoy books with neurodivergent characters, especially when they are done well and not done in a stereotypical manner. The authors here handled Lexi’s neurodivergence very well. We understood her way of thinking without her constantly reminding us that she was in fact on the spectrum.
As I’ve always said, I love when books make me feel and man did I feel in this book. I felt the love, the lust, and the heartbreak. And for those readers that like spice in their books, this book is not lacking in the spice department either.
