The Crash

By: Freida McFadden

Teagan is eight months pregnant and alone. What she thought was going to be her payday turns out not to be. She decides to go visit her brother, but takes one last shift at the grocery store before she heads on her way. The snow storm comes and she crashes her car. A stranger, Hank, helps her out and brings her to his house. The roads are filled with snow, there’s no electricity, phone lines are down. But at least Hank has a wife, Polly, who was a nurse. They told her once the roads are cleared and the phone lines come back, they’ll call 911 and get her to the hospital. But she soon stops believing they’ll do that. Now Teagan must do whatever it takes to keep her and her baby safe.

I have seen a lot of mixed reviews for this book. It seems like people either really loved it or really hate it. I liked it. I don’t think this is the best book by McFadden, but I don’t think this is a terrible book either! This was a simpler book than say, The Boyfriend (which is by far my favorite book of McFadden’s). There are less characters and the plot seems a little more straight forward. What seemingly could be a plot twist didn’t really feel like one for me because I’ve read it before.

The book did feel a little drawn out in the middle for me, but there was a twist towards the end that I didn’t see coming. I did appreciate that. It also really made me angry (but I guess that was what McFadden wanted me to feel!). Overall, this is a decent book, very much a popcorn thriller.
