Deep End

By: Ali Hazelwood

“If you don’t think that I’m very aware of your presence, always, you have no idea what’s going on.”

Scarlett is a collegiate diver who also wants to go to med school. She’s well on her way to NCAA but then gets injured. After healing, she has a block and can’t seem to perform the same dive in which she was injured. Lukas is a confidant, medal winning, captain of the swim team. Originally from Sweden, he has the chance to make it to the Olympics with the Swedish team. On the surface, Scarlett and Lukas have nothing in common, but behind closed doors, these two for very compatible. So they come to an arrangement… but that gets very messy.

Please don’t come for me. I know this author is beloved (I have enjoyed other books by this author) and I know many that have thoroughly enjoyed this book, but it just didn’t work for me personally. Here’s where I think it missed the mark.

I found the book kind of boring. At a whopping 464 pages, there are a LOT of in depth scenes about diving. I get it, it’s part of the story line, but I really do think this could have been cut down. Unfortunately for me, I also didn’t feel the chemistry between the two characters. There were a few moments when I thought that maybe I was going to start feeling it, but then it lost me again.

This book also boasted a lot of BDSM talk. The characters even filled out a paper of what they were into, and then nothing. then it was just rough consensual intercourse. Yes, there was some submissive/dom talk, but really, it didn’t meet the BDSM level. And after a while the “spicy scenes” were the same over and over, and got boring.

This is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt! Who knows, maybe you’ll like it!
