Rescue

Many thanks to Happily Booked PR for the ARC of this book!

In this last installment of the Aftermath novella series, we hear from Jon, the doctor that was in the car that was in the landslide. Jon also feels like the incident was his fault. In his time before the interview, he takes time away from the hustle and bustle of London and stays at a B&B run by Abigail. Abigail has a 6 year old daughter, Layla, and they live there. Right now, Jon is the only guest there. While quiet and standoffish at first, Jon soon becomes more comfortable and finds himself enjoying time with Abigail and Layla. But he will eventually has to leave, so where does that leave them?

I like that each of these books gives us a little more about the incident, we learn more information about it and then also gain another perspective on what happened. Jon is the typical grumpy/sunshine character. And while I did like the beginning of Jon and Abigail, I think it went from 0 to 100 really quickly. I wanted a little more buildup. Without it, I didn’t feel the connection of the characters and with the characters.

However, I absolutely LOVED Layla. The connection she made with “Doctor Jon” was so sweet. And he was equally sweet with her. I know he’s a pediatrician, but not all pediatricians are good with kids, or even are nice to kids. But, ugh, if there was any reason for me to fall in love with Jon, it was how he interacted with Layla.

We also got epilogues for all the characters so we could see how each of them was in the future. So it was a really nice ending.
