“What if that’s not my name?”
A teenage girl wakes up on the side of the road with blood on her, bruised, and dirty with no idea who she is. A police officer finds her and tries to help her. And then her father comes to the station to get her and tells her that her name is Mary Boone. At the time same time, Drew’s girlfriend, Lola, has been missing for weeks. While he’s putting up fliers and looking for her, the town’s sheriff is focusing on him. No matter how many times he’s told everyone that he’s never hurt Lola, he’s the number one suspect. Drew, however, will stop at nothing to find Lola and him and some friends follow a trail of clues that they hope will lead to Lola.
What you think is happening in this book, is not what is happening. I flew through this book in less than 24 hours. It’s indulging, fast paced, and just downright really good. Lally’s writing is just easy to read; it flows so well.
All of the characters were really well written. I really liked Drew. Yes, Drew is a teenager. But he was an age appropriate teenager. He wasn’t immature and annoying, but he also didn’t act well beyond his years. Even though we never know Lola and Drew together on the pages of the book, you could feel how much he loves her and how much he’s hurt by whatever has happened to her.
The twist threw me for a loop because of course I had it figured out. And while this is a thriller, I also cried at the end of the book. It was such a beautiful way to end this book. So if you haven’t read this one yet, I do suggest you read it!
