The Book of Doors

By: Gareth Brown

“This is the Book of Doors. Hold it in your hand, and any door is every door.”

Cassie is just living her life. She is gifted a book by a customer, but it’s a different type of book. It’s magical. It allows her to travel anywhere through doors. But this book is not the only magical book – there are others: the Book of Illusions, the Book of Safety, the Book of Pain, the Book of Shadows etc.. and there are Book Hunters who want these books. Some for good reasons and some for bad reasons. Now Cassie and her friend Izzy find themselves in danger as those that want The Book of Doors are after them.

Fantasy is not a typical genre for me. In fact, I don’t tend to read it at all. But I think books like this I do enjoy. So maybe fantasy/magical realism is a genre I like! Just not with werewolves and vampires etc.. haha. I digress. I really like the concept of this book. It is so different from my typical reads of thrillers and romance books.

This book is full of adventure! There is always something happening, definitely lots of action. There were also a lot of layers to this story. The plot was very well thought out. The time travel aspect of it was also really interesting. I either loved or hated the characters, and I think I loved or hated the ones that the author wanted me to. I had no idea that this was a debut novel when I picked it up! With this being a debut novel, I can’t wait to see what this author does next!

I will say that the book was a tad too long/drawn out for me. I think some things could have been cut and you’d still have the same book. There were some off putting comments in the book that didn’t really help the plot so I could have done without those as well. But overall, a really enjoyable book!
