About the Book
Beneath the tranquil surface of Whidbey Island, a sinister force lurks. When a ruthless polygamist cult leader and his deadly enforcer unleash chaos, Deputy Sheriff Roger Wilkie is drawn into a relentless game of cat and mouse. He knows the truth—but capturing these cunning killers may be his toughest challenge yet.
With the help of the island’s eccentric residents—including a formidable ex-con who’s always in the thick of trouble—and two sharp-witted German Shepherds, Wilkie navigates a world of danger, dark humor, and razor-sharp sarcasm. Fast-paced and gripping, this thriller will keep you hooked until the final, heart-stopping twist.
Part of the Whidbey Island series, but can be read as a standalone.
My Review
This is my first introduction to this author and I really enjoyed it! Mulcahey crafted a unique story with a great plot, a great setting, and quite a cast of characters! Each step of the way, the author kept the reader engaged. I really enjoyed the cult aspect of this book. I do love a book that has some cult ties to it!
It’s clear that this author knows his police procedure well! There wasn’t a decision made that I questioned (and yes, it does happen often!). And while these characters had a difficult task at hand, there was some banter and lighter moments as well. There were some twists in here that surprised me as well, especially towards the end!
If you like police procedurals, I highly recommend this one!
