About the Book
The perfect life…Or the perfect lie?
Two years ago, Aria West woke up in hospital with a severe head injury and no recollection of her previous life.
Now, she’s a successful sculptor, living in a remote cabin in upstate New York with her husband, Austin. Despite everything that’s happened, she’s living a good life. A peaceful life.
Except for the recurring nightmares – terrifying fragments of the trauma that led to her memory loss. Fragments that do not match Austin’s account of that fateful day.
As his behavior grows increasingly erratic, Aria becomes convinced her husband is hiding something sinister. To feel safe in the future, she knows she has to uncover the truth about the past—
But getting her memory back won’t be easy. Especially when someone will do anything to stop that from happening…
My Review
Theo Baxter writes really good thriller/suspense novels, and this one is not different. There was a character that was giving me an uneasy feeling right from the beginning and I was right. But, it didn’t ruin the book for me because I didn’t know the why or the how. I kept turning the pages because I wanted to know both of those things. I also really wanted to know how this was going to end for Aria.
This is an enjoyable, entertaining read, but it also sheds light on an important topic. That is, there’s different forms of abuse. It’s not always someone putting their hands on someone. It can be control and manipulation and that is what happens in this book. The signs are not always easy to see either. And while Aria seeing a therapist was mainly to get her memory back, I really like how involved the therapist was in this book.
So while this book doesn’t really have a huge twist or reveal, wanting to know the whole story is what keeps you turning the pages. I’d probably describe this as a popcorn thriller. So if those books are the types that you like, definitely check this one out!
