The Orphanage by the Lake

By: Daniel G. Miller

Hazel Cho is a disgrace to her family, she’s a thirty year old single private investigator. Her business is hanging by a thread when in walks Madeline Hemsley. Her goddaughter lives at a children’s home and she’s gone missing. Now Hazel is under a deadline to find the girl, or not get paid. The police and other private investigators never got anywhere, will Hazel be able to find Mia, the missing girl?

Wow. I did not expect this book to end the way that it did. I was enjoying the book, reading it as I would a regular private detective novel. Hazel was taking the steps she needed to take to conduct her investigation. I loved her bravery and strength. But when I tell you that I did not expect that ending, I mean out of all the suspects, I did NOT expect that one!!!

There is a wild cast of characters in this book too. Everyone had their purpose. Were there some that were annoying? Yeah. But that’s okay! I think the pacing in this book was spot on as well. Make sure you check the trigger warnings.

This book is on KU, so check it out!
