Paige Parker gets stuck at the airport due to weather. She sits down to eat something and meets three other women, they get to talking about their exes and come up with a revenge plan. Nothing too crazy, just little ways to get back at each other’s exes in ways that will drive them crazy. Paige gets Bella’s ex, Olly. She’s staying with him during her gap time. She comes with a hamster, adopts a stray dog, makes a mess of the kitchen, plays music terribly, all to drive him mad. Afterall, he left Bella the morning of their wedding via text. But things don’t go as planned. She didn’t expect him to be handsome, and nice.. and to feel a spark. What about her loyalty to Bella?
I really enjoyed the premise of the book. I always love a book that has strong female friendships; it’s so often we see females cutting each other down, so I love seeing when they are lifting each other up. And bonding over desserts? Yes please! This was really a cute and fun read. The things that Paige did to annoy Olly made me laugh, especially because we get inside Paige’s head and get to know her thoughts surrounding them.
There are some other deeper issues that Paige is dealing with (not telling, this is a spoiler free review!) The author handled these well. I enjoyed that Paige went from shying away from what happened to deciding to become stronger about it.
Unfortunately for me, I lacked feeling the connection between Olly and Paige a little. I think that’s on me though; I think it was the way that I imagined him in my head versus what was really on the page. Later in the book I started to feel their connection a bit, but I never really connected with their connection.
The ending was really cute, and I think the series is going to be a hit!
