About the Book
A girl went missing. Was it your husband’s fault?
Sarah is so happy to have moved from the city to her husband’s small hometown. James was strangely reluctant at first – but she convinced him their little cottage is the perfect place to settle down. The perfect place to give their six-year-old son a new life.
But then a woman at the school gates asks Sarah if she is really married to ‘that man’. ‘Which man?’ Sarah asks. The woman replies…
‘Don’t you know what your husband did?’
Because Sarah and James moving back has caused old wounds to surface. James’ best friend, Lucy, went missing 20 years ago. Everyone thinks he was responsible.
Sarah is reeling. Why did James never tell her about Lucy? What really happened to the missing girl?
And can Sarah ever trust the man she married again?
My Review
This is not the first book I’ve read by this author, and it will not be the last. Wilkinson writes such engaging, fast paced, thrilling, keep you guessing types of books. They are thoroughly enjoying.
We all know that small towns are a breeding ground for rumors and everyone in everyone else’s business and this small town is no different. Sarah didn’t expect it when moving here as she didn’t really know about her husband’s past! Throw in some secrets, a fire, a death, and you just don’t know what you’ll get, and where the story is going to end up! I cannot even imagine how Sarah felt showing up to bring her child to school only for someone to hint that her husband did something bad a long time ago. I really appreciated that the author didn’t make us wait to long for us to find out what that was.
As the book progresses, not only do we find out what that was, but we find out that there’s more secrets that this small town holds. Throw in a twist here and a twist there, and WOW, we get an ending that gives us whiplash! I will say that I predicated one thing happening for the end, but how it happened was not the way that I thought it was going to happen. I also never guessed that a particular character was involved. The ending was really, really good! So go check this one out!
About the Author

Kerry Wilkinson is from the English county of Somerset but has spent far too long living in the north. It’s there that he’s picked up possibly made-up regional words like ‘barm’ and ‘ginnel’. He pretends to know what they mean.
He’s also been busy since turning thirty: his Jessica Daniel crime series has sold more than a million copies in the UK; he has written a fantasy-adventure trilogy for young adults; a second crime series featuring private investigator Andrew Hunter and the standalone thriller, Down Among The Dead Men.
