Many thanks to Torch Lit Ink for the ARC of this book!
Benjamin Silver approached Theresa in a bar one night, ask her to go home with him. Not knowing if it was a one night stand or more, she left him her number and went to her college class the next day. What she didn’t expect was that Ben was her professor. Not wanting to lose his job or get her kicked out of school, he tells her that they can’t happen. As the semester progresses, their pull for each other doesn’t disappear. When Theresa befriends Ethan, Ben’s brother, Ben gets jealous. But are both of them willing to risk everything for a chance at love?
This was a really enjoyable book. At less than 200 pages, it is a quick read. But just because this book is less than 200 pages doesn’t mean that the characters, the development, and the story line isn’t fleshed out. I really enjoyed Theresa’s backstory. We don’t get pages and pages of her past, but little details here and there sprinkled throughout. It gives us an understanding of who she is, why she is the way that she is, and why she feels the way that she feels. It’s then easy to place yourself in her shoes.
The same goes for both Ethan and Benjamin. We get to know them very well in this book and we understand why they make the choices that they do. I loved Ben’s willingness to admit his mistakes and take the time to make it right. All of the characters had growth in the book.
There were times that my heart dropped and times that my heart soared. That’s all I ever want from a romance book – to make me feel what the characters are feeling. Barros did exactly that. This is a debut for Barros and I can’t wait to read more by this author. It’s out now, so check it out!
