Any Trope But You

By: Victoria Lavine

Margot Bradley is a romance author, but she doesn’t believe in romance. For ever happily ever after, she’s written a happily never after and it’s saved on her computer. When someone finds it on the cloud and brings it to light, she loses her fans and her publisher. She escapes to a remote location in Alaska to try her hand at mystery/thriller writing. What she didn’t expect to find was Dr. Forrest Wakefield, the epitome of a romance novel hero. Then she finds herself in a ton of romance novel tropes with him. Either they stay apart and become happily never afters, or they give in and at least have a little fun. But things are never that simple.

I have seen this book all over the place and I couldn’t wait to read it. Unfortunately, I think it was so hyped up that I was slightly disappointed. That and I think I just have read a few really great romance books lately that this book just didn’t live up to those. There’s nothing wrong with this book per se. It’s a cute romance book. It’s an enjoyable read. There’s a lot of the typical romance trope and you do get a HEA. But there’s also just nothing about it that stands out for me personally.

I did like Forrest as a character. He’s complicated but very likeable. How can you not like a seemingly handsome guy, who takes care of his dad, who can cook, and is a doctor?! Margot was an okay character. She could be a little annoying at times. I also thought the book was a little repetitive and maybe a little too long for the storyline. Maybe if I had read this at a different time, I would feel differently. There’s been so many great reviews though, so take mine with a grain of salt!
