For The Ones We Call Home

By: Elle P. Golden

Many thanks to Torch Lit Ink for the ARC of this book and the stop on the book tour!

Haley escaped a horrific life and settled in a small town where she met Zach and his family. It took her a while to open herself up to him but eventually she did. Only for him to break her and her son’s heart and leave them. When he suddenly reappears one day, which they never expected, Haley doesn’t know if she can ever forgive him. Then something scary and tragic happens. On top of that, her past comes back to haunt her. Now the only person she wants by her side is Zach. Can she forgive him? Can they find their way back to each other?

This book is EVERYTHING!!! There are so many layers to this book. Haley’s past, Zach’s past and current life/job, what happens with Zach and Haley meet, Mia’s (Zach’s sister) life, and how it all eventually intertwines. There were times that my heart was swooning and I was smiling. Then there were times there was a ton of action and I was on the edge of my seat. I can’t forget that I also shed some tears as well.

Zach was very sweet with Haley. He immediately recognized that Haley ran from some kind of traumatic circumstances. He was patient and kind with her. Never pushing, never rushing. The ONLY thing that bothered me was that he repetitively said “I’m going to protect you” or “I’m here to protect you” – okay, I got it. I don’t need you to say it 500 times during this book.

Other than that, I fell in love with this book! Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. There was never a time where I felt like I was missing out on anything. So romance readers, what are you waiting for.. go pick up this book now!
