You Can Trust Me

By: Miranda Rijks

Many thanks to the author Miranda Rijks for the ARC of this book!

Amelia has fallen victim to a scam. Her friend Paige comes to her rescue and helps her. When their daughters Marnie and Taryn become best friends, they become closer as well. But Paige is more like a frenemy. Once Paige has Amelia’s trust, she proceeds with her plan. Her plan to steal her money, ruin her marriage, her business.. her life. Amelia just thinks they are close friends. Will she ever realize what Paige is doing? Will Amelia’s life be ruined?

This is more of a slow burn thriller/mystery. The whole time I kept thinking to myself, “what is the motivation behind Paige’s actions?” Rijks begins with Paige starting off seemingly small and then gaining more confidence with her actions as she proceeds with her plan to ruin Amelia’s life. As the story progresses, Paige’s actions are more conniving and thought out.

I enjoyed getting the multiple points of view in this book. It really helped keep the story well rounded. I think if it had been only one point of view, the story would have gotten boring. The multiple points of view really hooks the reader here; it really keeps the reader wanting more and keeps the reader wondering why Paige is doing what she is doing.

Paige is … I don’t like using the word crazy… but she is quite the character! I don’t want to call her crazy because once we find out what her motivation is, I sort of understand her better. While I don’t agree with her actions, I do understand her. It’s hard not to feel bad for Amelia because while her life looks like it may be perfect to people like Paige, when you read from her point of view, you get to know what’s really going on.

Overall, this is an enjoyable, quick read about toxic relationships, friendship dynamics, and revenge. Readers who like mysteries will enjoy this one!
