Ethan Hall used to be a detective in kids crimes, but saw some horrible things. He left that job and became an ER doctor. However, his former partner, Pete, has come to see him about a 10 year old cold case of a missing girl Callie Jones. As a favor to Pete, Ethan agrees to consult on the case. Afterall, he was an excellent detective and had a 100% solve rate. As Ethan begins investigating the case, he’s given clues to help make connections by an unlikely source – a serial killer that was in prison at the time of Callie’s disappearance. But if he was locked up at the time, how does he know anything? The deeper the investigation goes, there’s more questions than answers, and the more dangerous it becomes.
Wow! My first five star read of September! This was a fantastic book! I’ll be honest, as always, it started out a little rough for me. There was the introduction of a lot of characters in the beginning, I wasn’t sure how they were all going to fit together, and it was hard to remember who everyone was. As the pieces came together, the story really became solid.
I’ll say this – I did guess who was behind Callie’s murder, but I wasn’t 100% positive. It didn’t take away from the book at all, because there was more happening than just that. There was a complex plot line wherein many things were happening and there were little mysteries to be solved within the overarching bigger one. It is extremely well thought out. The characters are all multidimensional and well developed.
There were quite a few twists here, the big one I saw, but some I did not see. The ending left me speechless. It kind of left on a cliffhanger, which isn’t my favorite, but definitely leads to the possibility of there being a second book – I really hope there is a second book.
Clearly, I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I hope thriller readers will pick this up if they haven’t already!
