“I’m sure nobody goes on vacation expecting to be dismembered and put through a woodchipper, but some tourists are just assholes and deserve their fate.”
Cape Carnage was once a town that no one visited. Now, they use the name Cape Carnage to bring in the tourists. With a serial killer past, and tourists that go missing, it also brings in sleuthseekers. Harper needs to hide from the sleuthseekers. She rids the town of the troublesome tourists and hides them beneath her award winning garden. Harper meets a new tourist, Nolan Rhodes, but he’s different. On the anniversary of his brother’s death, Nolan slays a target, and now he’s here in Cape Carnage to go after his final victim, Harper. But he’s not what he expected. He needs to keep her quiet about his adventures, so he agrees to help her. During that time, something in him shifts. It’s then he learns that he really doesn’t know Harper the way he thought he did.
This is hands down my new favorite Brynne Weaver book. The very first page had me laughing. I loved the Ruinous Love trilogy, but somehow, some.. how.. Ms. Weaver outdid herself with the start of this new trilogy. I could not put this book down. I don’t know how many different ways I can say that I was extremely blown away by this book. It was dark, it was funny, it was tense, it was light, it was sexy, it was dangerous… it was brilliant.
The banter between Harper and Nolan was perfect. They really had that hate/like thing down perfect. I very much enjoyed how much Harper protected Arthur and the town. There is also the mention of dementia in this book, and I appreciated that this particular topic, within this wild book, was very much handled with care.
This book ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, which I don’t love. Now, I cannot wait until the next one in the series comes out!!! I don’t even know when that will be!!! Ugh… Anyway, I think if you can handle dark romance that’s coupled with humor, you should absolutely read this book!
