The Midnight Knock

By: John Fram

Many thanks to Atria Books and Netgalley for the ARC of this book!

A seemingly abandoned motel along the “dust road” where travelers converge, all of whom seem to be running from something. Another guest, Sarah Powers, is at the hotel as well, and they all seem to be connected to her. Within hours, she is dead. The twins that run The Brake Inn Motel inform the guests that they must solve Sarah’s death or at midnight, they would not survive. Here at The Brake Inn Motel nothing is as it seems, everyone is hiding something, and it’s possible that not everyone else will survive.

I don’t know what to make of this book. The first half of the book I really enjoyed. It was a standard thriller locked room thriller book, but it is definitely different. The author had all these characters who somehow are connected to Sarah and we little by little learn about their connection to her and their background. The author really built the atmosphere and made it creepy. The twins were especially creepy, and they really added to the book.

Right around the middle of the book, things slow down and get a tad bit repetitive. But it’s slightly needed for the plot of the book, so I kind of okay with it. Then the book took a weird turn. One that I didn’t know was coming. One that really kind of confused me. About 70%-ish into the book I was lost from that point on. I understood the big picture ending, but some of the other things I didn’t understand at all.

Maybe it’s me… maybe I’m the dunce here! Who knows. Don’t forget to check this one out when it releases!
