About the Book
Childhood sweethearts. Second chances. And one magical Christmas…
Since chef Ruby left to chase her dreams in London and her family moved away, she’s not had reason to visit her tiny hometown… Until she’s invited to judge the charity gingerbread competition over the holidays, raising money for the local library where Ruby once loved getting cosy. But there’s Christmas mischief at work… Because her ex, Nathan, is a gingerbread judge too.
He is broodier than she remembers, and twice as handsome. Ruby’s pulse races every time their hands brush reaching for the freshly baked treats. And when their eyes meet at the prize giving, it’s even harder to remember all the reasons she left.
Ruby can’t resist staying long enough to raise more awareness for the library charity. Then snowfall traps her in the village. As the fairy lights twinkle and carollers sing, she can’t seem to escape Nathan, and his broody exterior starts to crack… Is the magic of Christmas giving them a second chance?
But Ruby must get back to London for Christmas Day for work. Faced with saying another goodbye, she isn’t sure she wants to…
My Review
This was such a warm, cozy read! It’s such a perfect second chance, Christmas romance book. There is so much holiday charm in the book. There is a gingerbread contest, holiday markets, cozy inns, snow fall, and a second chance romance.
I love that we got to know Ruby, we got to know who she is and what her decision was in her past that got her where she is. I enjoyed feeling her hesitance going back to her hometown and that while weather led her to stay around at first, it was more than just a man that caught her interest in her hometown.
I know that his is a second chance romance and that Ruby and Nathan had a history. That still doesn’t necessarily mean that gives an author a free pass to an insta-love story. People grow and change, so there has to be some time for re-discovery. I feel like the author excelled at that here. I did not for one second feel like the characters were rushing into anything.
So get comfy, settle in, grab this book… and enjoy!
About the Author

Sue Roberts lives in Lancashire with her long term partner Derek and has had a lifelong love of writing, encouraged by winning a school writing competition at the age of 11.
She always assumed that ‘one day’ she would write a book, always having a busy household and a job, the idea remained firmly on the back burner but never forgotten.
The inspiration for her first novel came to her on a holiday to a Greek village. Her daughters had left home and suddenly the time had come to write that book!
