Mackenzie Casper is the daughter of a well known author with a dedicated fan base. When her mother passes away, fans grieve. Then Mackenzie receives a letter addressed “From #1 fan, XOXO.” In these envelopes are the pages of her mother’s diary – secrets about her mother that she never knew. As Mackenzie receives more of these envelopes, she begins to look into who her mother was, and what she learns is nothing more than life altering.

I’ve been meaning to read this book for a while but I never seem to find the time. We’re reading this for our book club this month and I’m so glad that I finally read it. It really is a fantastic psychological thriller. It’s filled with suspense, family dysfunction, and twists. This author really thought out her plot line and executed it perfectly!

I really enjoyed Mackenzie as a character. I felt for her and I was along for the investigative ride with her. She and her best friend EJ did a wonderful job figuring things out without it seeming too extraordinary – I didn’t have to suspend belief to believe in what they were doing.

The last 1/4 of this book was my favorite. There was twist and revel after twist and reveal. I kind of figured out one of them slightly ahead of the reveal, but I think that the author did that on purpose. This way you think you figured out the big reveal, but then the author hits you with MORE! It was brilliant!

If you haven’t read this one already, get your hands on it and read it now. You won’t regret it.
