Many thanks to Simon Teen for the ARC of this book!
Harper Braedon and Luke Dawson couldn’t be more different. He is a hockey player and she thinks he is nothing but a jock. Harper works hard at her job at the Diner that his family owns, and with her own business, and he is always asking for her to cover his shifts. The hockey coach gets fired and the team all thinks its all Harper’s fault. They get locked in the walk in fridge together and things start to shift. Will the shift stick, or is the grudge she’s been holding too much to overcome?
This was the sweetest YA romance book I’ve read! This book felt so real and true to that of high schoolers. The school supports the athletes, other clubs get the shaft; everyone comes out and cheers at the games; there’s always the popular kids and those that are not popular. Harper starts out stereotyping Luke. Once she gets to know him, she changes her mind and realizes that she was wrong. It’s really awesome to see that teenagers can be mature and realize their mistakes.
I loved how driven both of these characters were – Luke with his hockey and Harper with her business she can get a scholarship. I also loved the choice that the author made to make this really sweet since they were teenagers. Nothing went too far, nothing was inappropriate. The author did write the perfect kisses between the two. I could feel the chemistry and the connection between them. Lastly, I also loved that they were good influences on each other and really brought out the best in each other.
I learned that this was a debut novel, and it is the perfect YA romance.
